Peshawar High Court requests an explanation from the government over its stance regarding talks with the TTP

Peshawar: The Peshawar High Court ordered the federal government to respond to a petition on Thursday asking for an injunction to prevent it from reaching an agreement with the terrorist group Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan without first consulting the parents of those who lost their lives in the 2014 attack on the Peshawar Army Public School.

The order was made following a preliminary hearing into the case brought by the mothers of four kids and a female teacher who were killed by TTP militants in the APS massacre on December 16, 2014.

Parents of the slain students and teachers were the victims of the most heinous act of terrorism in the history of the nation, according to advocate Ajoon Khan, whose son Asfand Khan was also killed in the massacre. However, he claimed, they had still not been given the benefit of the doubt regarding the government’s ongoing talks with the TTP, which is now outlawed.

He asked the court to order the government not to attempt to reconcile with the TTP without his and the petitioners’ approval. Next hearing date is 28 July.
